What Is the Changemaker Fellowship?

This program helps you find your own discernment and act on it. Through self-discovery, deep listening, and hands-on experimentation, grounded in spiritual practice and the model of Jesus as a changemaker, Fellows turn their desire for change into meaningful action.

Since 2018, about 100 Fellows, ranging in age from 12 to 80, have gone through the program. Fellows work through parallel threads of self-reflection, project work, and Gospel study, and come out inspired to live as compassion-driven changemakers like Jesus.

Fellows in Action

Pam turned her love of environmental stewardship into a neighborhood composting site on her church's property, built with her congregation.

Christy, a former foster care youth, used her Fellowship experience to grow her Los Angeles organization, which offers parenting classes to foster families and works directly with the county court and foster care systems. "This is just a group of ordinary people doing amazing things," she told us.

Miriam used her Fellowship in her 80s to write a book about death, dying, and aging well.

Brett started an HVAC business and, with support from his changemaker church, now offers free HVAC services to local nonprofits. He's working toward training unhoused and formerly incarcerated neighbors in HVAC work so they can find stable jobs.

How It Works: The R.I.S.K. Framework

The Fellowship follows the same four-module framework used across our programs, applied to your own discernment rather than a congregation's.

Realize

Fellows ask people who know them well to name their greatest gifts, and use the Positive Intelligence framework to identify their "saboteurs," or inner voices that get in the way of becoming who they're meant to be. From there, Fellows work through where their passions and gifts meet a real need in their community and a sense of God's call.

Immerse

Fellows practice empathetic listening, then practice it in real conversations with people affected by what they care about, people who see things differently, and people they don't already know. The goal isn't to confirm what you already believe.

Start

Fellows experiment by testing an idea that is grounded in spiritual practices such as holy listening, lament, and storytelling. If it doesn't work, that's data, not failure. You try something small, learn, adjust, and try again.

Keep Going

Fellows reflect on what they've learned and take on new leadership, in their church or well beyond it. Changemaking stops being a project with an end date and becomes a practice they carry forward.
